Integral Yoga ®
The goal of Integral Yoga® is to realize the spiritual unity behind all the diversities in the entire creation and to live harmoniously as members of one universal family. Integral Yoga® was established by Sri Swami Satchidananda in 1966 and today there are over 40 Integral Yoga® Institutes (IYIs) and Integral Yoga® Centers (IYCs) throughout the United States.
The teachings of Yoga are the same essential principles that lie at the foundation of all faiths. The true yogi respects all traditions, recognizing that although the paths are many, the Truth is One.
When the word Yoga is mentioned, most people think of some physical postures for relaxing or limbering the body. This is only one facet of Yoga. The practice of Yoga addresses itself to every aspect of the individual: physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual, and leads to the understanding and mastery of one's own mind. When the mind becomes clear and balanced, we are able to look within to experience the peace and happiness that is our true nature.
Integral Yoga® is the synthesis of the various branches of Yoga. It is a scientific system for the harmonious development of every aspect of the individual.
Hatha Yoga - predominately concerned with the physical development through asanas, pranayama, mudras, kriyas, yogic diet, and deep relaxation.
Raja Yoga - predominately concerned with the control of the mind, through ethical perfection and regular practice of concentration and meditation.
Bhakti Yoga - the path of devotion.
Karma Yoga - the path of action.
Jnana Yoga - the intellectual approach.
Japa Yoga - Japa means repetition of a mantram.
